Last November, we reported that the Church had created an official news site on LDS.org. The site has now been upgraded.

The Church News and Events section at news.lds.org contains custom, original content created by the Church News and Events team, supplemented by information the Church’s other official sources—Church magazines (magazines.lds.org), Public Affairs Newsroom (newsroom.lds.org), Mormon Channel (MormonChannel.org), and LDS Church News (ldschurchnews.com).

The site provides information about new Church materials, Church events, humanitarian aid, member experiences, and much more, including videos and photo galleries to provide an enriched experience. The site is updated throughout the week with new events, articles, and multimedia. And you can share the stories you like with your friends using the site’s built-in sharing capabilities through e-mail, Twitter, Facebook, and Delicious.

Here are some of the new features:

  • The “Global Church Events” list on the right side of the front page shows upcoming Church events, including trainings, conferences, concerts, pageants, and open houses.
  • The “Topics” list in the site’s banner at the top of the page lets you sort articles by subject. If you are interested in articles about family history, select it from the pull-down list and you’ll see a list of articles from Church News and Events about family history. You can also search for a specific article using the search box.
  • You can subscribe to get news feeds by using the Subscribe button at the top right of the page.
  • The site will eventually become available in 10 languages (Chinese-Cantonese, Chinese-Mandarin, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish) as LDS.org becomes available in those languages. And with its connection to the Liahona magazine, some of the information will be available to members around the globe in nearly 50 languages, making it a global resource to help unite and inform members of an international Church.

“As Church News and Events focuses on the good things going on in the Church throughout the earth, individuals and families are strengthened in their resolve and ability to learn, live, and share the gospel of Jesus Christ,” said Elder Paul B. Pieper of the Seventy.
