One of the things many people don’t know about me is that I took Russian in college.  I also sang in BYU’s Russian choir for two years. I don’t remember many words, but I can still read Cyrillic well enough to sound words out.  Back in 2008, I started listening to Russian music to get me in the mood to write a Moscow nightclub scene for a novel, and ended up liking it so much that most of the music I listen to now is in Russian.

Anyway, I thought it might be fun to share some of my favorites, so I tried finding some of them on YouTube. Here’s one I’ve been listening to a lot recently: “Orange Sun” by Kraski.

Here are the translated lyrics (courtesy of Google Translate and nomorelyrics.net):

Orange sun!

We draw a colorful picture
We dance for fun plate
The questions we will always find the answers
We do not need your advice adult

We are, we understand each other,
we play or who do not notice
Above the sky above the sun’s fly away
And the palms of our lift to the stars.

Chorus:
Orange sun in the clouds
Orange Sky on the hands,
Orange songs on zamley,
Orange you happy with us.

Orange sun in the clouds
Orange Sky on the hands,
Orange songs on zamley,
Orange you happy with us.

Orange sun!

Our colors, brighter colors of the world
Our fairy tale like adults and children
Today we will smile with you
All the color the only bright colors

We play, we understand each other,
We dance no notice
Above the sky above the sun’s fly away
And the palms of our lift to the stars!

Chorus:
Orange sun in the clouds
Orange Sky on the hands,
Orange songs on zamley,
Orange you happy with us.

Orange sun in the clouds
Orange Sky on the hands,
Orange songs on zamley,
Orange you happy with us.

Orange sun!
Orange sun!

Chorus:
Orange sun in the clouds
Orange Sky on the hands,
Orange songs on zamley,
Orange you happy with us.

Orange sun in the clouds
Orange Sky on the hands,
Orange songs on zamley,
Orange you happy with us.

Orange sun!
Orange sun!
Orange sun!
Orange sun!
Orange sun!
