The new Mormon Tabernacle Choir App for iOS, and a pending release for Android, marks the culmination of a multi-year strategy to enhance the reach of the Choir internationally and with younger audiences. With a growing presence in social media and a vibrant website for the Choir, you might wonder what additional benefit you gain from a mobile app.

Really, a lot is packed into this portable new interface. Scott Barrick, General Manager for the Tabernacle Choir, shared this: “The Mormon Tabernacle Choir app will ensure the Choir’s music, latest news, blog, events, concerts, ticketing, and tour information are all in one place, readily available.”

You can do all of the following: listen to the 24/7 music stream powered by the Mormon Channel, explore the latest news features, browse and download music and videos, check out rehearsal and performance schedules, shop for albums and books, and use the price comparison feature for physical offerings. A History feature will help you go back to prior selections.

You will especially appreciate the ease with which the in-app downloads of songs and videos allow you to take the Choir with you everywhere you go. You have ninety audio selections in the Sacred Music Library and nine videos (which are frequently updated) to choose from. Just start playing a song, then use the share icon [looks like a box with the up arrow] to download the file into the app. It will be stored in the “Downloads” section until you remove it with the “edit” above your saved selections by checking the item to remove and the trashcan icon.

If you are interested in compatibility, you may also use Airplay with the app on your iOS device and an AppleTV to mirror to an HDTV at home or in a meetinghouse. Of course, you can use a bluetooth speaker or a cable to connect to your audio sound system for a really nice experience.

According to Jared Goodey, Digital Media Producer for the Choir, developers were able to use a platform common with other youth apps to “leverage the technical framework and code base, adding a few more things to fulfill the Choir's requirements, to deliver a stable mobile app while keeping costs down.” Young and old alike will find the app so intuitive there is hardly a need for much navigational help, but that is available too.
