“And now, my beloved brethren, I would that ye should come unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption. Yea, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him, and continue in fasting and praying, and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved.”

Of the four authors of the Book of Omni, Amaleki is the only one to actually bear witness of the savior or do more than make an oblique reference to him. As I wrote in my last post, it is sad to see the degradation of the people reflected in the decline of a prophetic voice.

Nevertheless, Ameleki (or perhaps his father) clearly is one of those who followed Mosiah out into the wilderness. And so, even though his people had fallen into apostasy the memory of their ancestors remained. And when a prophet stood up and declared that they should flee destruction, Ameliki and his family remembered Nephi and followed. I wish we knew more about their journey and how the Lord led and sustained them. Regardless, it is clear that Ameliki had true faith in Christ and understood that he was the source of salvation and eternal happiness.
