8 Thus we see how quick the children of men do forget the Lord their God, yea, how quick to do iniquity, and to be led away by the evil one.9 Yea, and we also see the great wickedness one very wicked man can cause to take place among the children of men.
These verses repeat two themes that can be found throughout the Book of Mormon. First, how fickle and quick to forget mankind is. No sooner have people been delivered by the Lord that they begin to forget his role in their delivery. Remembering God is a constant struggle because the natural man wants to take all the praise and forget God. We must be hyper vigilant in remembering the Lord’s hand in our life, or we will lapse into prideful forgetfullness.

Second, we have seen already with King Noah how much evil a single wicked man can do. We see that again with Amalickiah. We also see how those who are not rooted in the Gospel can quickly be swayed by the wicked influence of others. It requires firm commitment to Christ to stay rooted in the Gospel. Satan will tempt us with all of the riches of the world. He will tempt us with what we desire most. But we must put God first if we are to resist the cunning snare of wicked men and alluring traps of Satan.
