Elder Rex D. Pinegar shared a story regarding missionary work that really resonated with me. He told of two friends. One of them, who was not a member of the church, told his friend about a business opportunity and said that he wanted to tell him about it because he would “feel bad” if he didn’t include his friend in the opportunity. As the other friend, who was a member of the Church, contemplated this invitation, he felt a great sense of guilt. He realized that even though they had been friends for a long time he had never shared something far more valuable than a business proposition.

“You will never know how that statement has troubled me because I have made no attempt to share something more precious than money with you. I am speaking of the true gospel of Jesus Christ.”

How often do we value the things of the world more than the things of God? How quickly we forget that we have something of inestimable worth?

This friend realized that he had been far too afraid of hurting his relationship so he hadn’t shared the thing that was worth far more than mere friendship. And in that instant, he decided to do something about it. He invited missionaries to meet with his friend. And he wrote an impassioned letter explaining why he was begging his friend to listen to the message.

 When I first joined the Church, I felt a great desire to share the Gospel with everyone I knew. But I feel like I’ve been burned through countless failures. It’s easy to be discouraged sometimes. And it’s easy to feel like I’ve already done everything that I possibly could and there is therefore nothing left to do. But reading this talk helped me remind that this isn’t the case. There is always more we can do to share.

But most important of all is 1) realizing how precious the Gospel is; and 2) making it clear to others that this is the reason we are sharing. Those who steps make a big difference.

Elder Pinegar also shared a grandmother’s testimony to her grandchildren which likewise resonated with me: “But I do want to leave you something very precious. It is something I brought with me all the way from Scotland. I carried it with me across the plains. It is something that will be of value to you all the days of your life and into the eternities. I want to leave to you my testimony—my testimony of the gospel. I know that the gospel is true. I know that God lives and that Jesus is the Christ.”

I likewise know that gospel is true. I know that God lives. I know that Jesus is the Christ. I know his church is on the earth. And there is ultimately nothing more precious than that.
