Today, I heard some hard news from a friend and read a pain-filled comment here at our site. And as I opened up a page to post a new post, the following song came on.

This was not my original intent for a post, but I think it’s what I want to share today.

Life can be really, really hard, with unexpected twists and turns. Sometimes even our greatest fears can happen, and we can wonder where God is in it all.

This song from Hilary Weeks captures a powerful truth — that God’s compensatory blessings are real, and especially that the pain we go through can help us come to really know who He is and why He sent His Son.

Truth be told, I used to hate songs like this, because I couldn’t see past the pain and questions that pressed on my mind and soul. So I’m not trying to suggest that it’s easy to see past the pain and let God in. It is a process, and it’s personal, and only God knows the timing and unfolding of our lives. But I know now that He really does want to be with me in my pain. Faith won’t always prevent the hard stuff, but it can help us hope and trust that we can find Him in our heartbreak.
