A few days ago, I declared myself a candidate for Treasurer of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA).  This is my platform statement:

Dear SFWA members:

I am running for the position of Treasurer. Since 2008 I have served SFWA as a member of the Grievance Committee, and I strongly believe in SFWA’s mission of informing, supporting, promoting, defending and advocating for our members. I believe the current board has done an excellent job in preparing the pending reorganization, and I look forward to helping implement the new bylaws. As Treasurer, I would ensure that our organization’s funds are handled in a procedurally correct, professional, and ethical manner.

  • Since 2009, I have served as a financial clerk for my local church congregation of over 250 households, and in that capacity I have been responsible for handling member donations, issuing checks, preparing for audits, and tracking down financial discrepancies from the three years prior to my service.
  • I have been an Active member of SFWA since 2004, having applied for membership less than a month after receiving the contract for my third qualifying short story sale.
  • I have sold over two dozen short stories to professional markets such as Analog, Nature, and the Blood Lite anthologies. I am also a Writers of the Future Contest winner.
  • Since 2009, I have worked part-time as an assistant editor for InterGalactic Medicine Show.
  • For most of the past decade, I have worked as a professional website developer.
  • I live in Eagle Mountain, Utah.

If elected as Treasurer, I look forward to serving you as a member of the 2011-2012 Board of Directors.

Sincerely,

Eric James Stone
