Sister Sharon Howell, a new Church Service Missionary on the LDSTech Communications team, comes from a rich LDS pioneer heritage . “One ancestor wrote the words to ’We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet’ while serving a mission in England,” she says. “Another ancestor was well-known as a poet, healer, and midwife.”

In some ways, Sister Howell is a “reverse pioneer.” After she graduated from Brigham Young University, she married and moved to Maryland, and then to rural Virginia where many Church members are first generation converts. “Here the members are spread out over many square miles. Living here has been a blessing. My personal boundaries have been stretched beyond my natural abilities as I serve in various stake and ward callings...

Sister Howell says, “As I approached retirement age, I considered what I should do after a post child-rearing career of over 20 years using technology. I was led to service opportunities at LDSTech. There I found a technical writer service opportunity that resonated with me. At each step, I felt spiritual promptings to make the next call and talk to the next person.  I recall being in the temple during this process, and I immediately felt an unmistakable confirmation that all would be well for me. So, here I am serving a mission at LDSTech, finding new ways to serve and loving it!”

There are many opportunities for service as Church Service Missionaries on the LDSTech team and throughout the Church. For more information about Church service missions, contact 801-240-7373.
