David Archuleta (Mormon) Announces Desire to Serve Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ

David Archuleta MormonIn a compelling moment in his December 19th Christmas concert in Salt Lake CIty, a la David’s style of authentic, heartfelt out-reaching to an audience he loves, Archuleta moved from expressing gratitude and joy at singing music he loves before a home audience to his announcement to serve a full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (inadvertently called by the media, “The Mormon Church”). David Archuleta, the second runner-up in the American Idol television competition, will take two years off from his singing career, to serve Jesus Christ full-time as an ambassador, wherever he is called.

David Archuleta is choosing to serve a mission (see Mormon Missionary, Missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), he says, not because someone told him to, but because he felt it was the right next step in his life.  He indicated that through the challenges he’s overcome and the amazing experiences he’s had, he has learned to listen to that inner voice that guides him, and to answer when it calls.  Before finishing his announcement, a thrilled crowd applauded and rose to their feet in cheers and exclamations.
