11 For thus spake the prophet: The Lord God surely shall visit all the house of Israel at that day, some with his voice, because of their righteousness, unto their great joy and salvation, and others with the thunderings and the lightnings of his power, by tempest, by fire, and by smoke, and vapor of darkness, and by the opening of the earth, and by mountains which shall be carried up.

I was struck by this description of the reaction to Christ’s post resurrection appearances. It parallels as well the descriptions of the second coming from the Book of Revelation and elsewhere. To those who believe, Christ’s coming shall be a source of joy and salvation. They shall be redeemed from bondage and sorrow. For the wicked on the other hand, his coming shall be a source of sorrow and suffering. The Prophet Zenos focused here on physical destruction such as natural disasters, but I believe this principle also applies spiritually. Thus, the coming of the Lord shall be a great day for some and a dreadful day for others. How we experience the second coming of Christ will depend greatly on our spiritual state and how diligently we have prepared for him.
