7 Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth?
8 Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also.

I love this call to humility and to realizing that no people has a monopoly on the love of God. As I served my mission in Russia, I met many people who had profound spiritual experiences that led them to believe in Christ and that led some to join his Church. I saw first hand that God is no respecter of persons, but gives revelation and wisdom to people throughout the world.

When we discount or disregard the wisdom of others nations and religions, we are repeating the grave error that leads many to declare “a Bible a Bible and reject the Book of Mormon.” We are limiting the extent of God’s power and placing him into a little box.

Nephi and his people must have likewise needed this reminder. They needed to know that God loves their brethren and also loved other strangers in the land. And even though the Nephites had prophetic authority, God could nevertheless do miracles through others around them. Nephi would have been encouraging his people to avoid the sins of pride and haughtiness and to instead love and serve those around them.
