18 Now the Amlicites knew not that they were fulfilling the words of God when they began to mark themselves in their foreheads; nevertheless they had come out in open rebellion against God; therefore it was expedient that the curse should fall upon them.
19 Now I would that ye should see that they brought upon themselves the curse; and even so doth every man that is cursed bring upon himself his own condemnation.

27 For every man receiveth wages of him whom he listeth to obey, and this according to the words of the spirit of prophecy;
This chapter teaches something significant about the curse of the Lamanites and indeed any curse that falls upon those who reject God. Everyman who is cursed brings upon himself his curse through wrongful conduct, sinful living, and behavior that sets them apart.

God’s punishment is not meant to be strictly putative or vindictive. God punishes for the purpose of correcting, reproving, or directing towards righteousness. It is Satan who rewards his own with suffering, bondage, and misery. He places us in a condition and state where we cannot feel the spirit and cannot find true joy. He places us in a cursed state because in that state he has great power over us.

Ultimately, we are rewarded by the being that we follow. Satan made himself an outcast and came out in rebellion and so his reward is strife and misery. Instead, God is the author of peace and so he rewards us with peace untold. We chose which master to serve .
