President Uchtdorf’s talk concluding the Sunday Morning session was an incredible one on so many fronts. I loved his emphasis on the power of God to heal and rebuild, his call to obey for the right reasons, and his general word dog encouragement.

But what stood out to me mostly strongly on my most recent reading was President Uchtdorf’s use of the imagery of the Savior finding the lost sheep.

“You may feel that your life is in ruins. You may have sinned. You may be afraid, angry, grieving, or tortured by doubt. But just as the Good Shepherd finds His lost sheep, if you will only lift up your heart to the Savior of the world, He will find you.

He will lift you up and place you on His shoulders.

   He will carry you home.”

We therefore come to believe that we have found our place. In these moments, it is easy to forget our father in heaven. But this is not the right attitude. Instead, we can realize that in this life we are all separated from God. Many wander without any knowledge of the good Shepard. But even those who know him and follow his voice are wandering. We see and hear through a glass darkly. And we ultimately all need the good shepherd’s help. We all need to be placed on his shoulders and led back home. Realizing our need and dependence on Christ is the necessary step to receiving his grace in our lives.
