Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. (Luke 2:34-35)I’ve often thought that Simeon prophesied of Mary’s impending pain at the crucifixion of her son Jesus, but recently I thought that maybe he was also prophesying that she would give her own life too for the cause of Christ. The scriptures don't confirm whether this happened or not, but considering her submissiveness to the will of God, it would be characteristic of her to do so.
