About NothingWavering.org

Welcome to NothingWavering.org, a portal to promote mainstream and othodox blogs about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, blogs by mainstream Latter-day Saint members on topics other than the Church, as well syndicated content from official Church websites.

NothingWavering.org was created to provide an orthodox alternative to existing Latter-day Saint Blogging portals and will strive to be a website to which mainstream members of the Church can direct their friends, family, fellow congregation members, and interested non-member associates with confidence that the content will be consistent with the counsel of the living Prophets and Apostles and where murmuring about the Church and those authorized to direct her will be discouraged.

Purpose & Principles

NothingWavering.org is designed to promote the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and not the writings of its site administrator. Consistent with the spirit of Zion, aggregated blogs on the portal are not distinguished by ranks according to their chances for learning, their personal connections, or the frequency of their content. Instead, all included bloggers are on equal ground and the newest content appears at the top of the page and moves down as newer content becomes available.

The Name

The name "Nothing Wavering" is a reference to a scripture in the King James translation of the Holy Bible, the Epistle of James, Chapter 1, Verses 5 through 8:

5. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

7. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

8. A adouble minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Verse five of this passage is foundational to the Restoration of the Gospel and establishment of the Church of Jesus Christ in the modern era.

We all lack wisdom, and so it is natural and appropriate to have questions. But in asking those questions let us not forget to whom they should be addressed and that we should ask in faith, not doubt.

Technology

NothingWavering.org attempts to be technologically progressive in promoting the official church as well as content from orthodox individual members. The website is driven by a custom, object oriented MVC Framework for PHP5, PostgreSQL Database, XML, XSLT Templating, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. Features include:

  • RSS Feeds, email subscriptions, and embeddable widgets, allow the content of Nothing Wavering to be easily distributed and shared. Future integration with popular social websites, like Facebook, will continue this trend. Additionally, a mobile version of the website for web-enabled phones and PDAs is under development.
  • Experimental technologies that identify common hyperlinks between aggregated content, as well as keyword tags, help readers identify inter-related posts and cross-blog conversations.
  • Each aggregated post is given a unique, permanant url on NothingWavering.org with a content preview and inter-related links to help promote the post's search engine discoverability in searches for Latter-day Saint content.
  • The website has been designed to use standard modern web technologies, like HTML5, CSS3, Ajax, and a pleasant color scheme and tableless layout to enhance user experience. At the same time is designed with Accessibility and Search Engine friendliness in mind so that the whole site degrades nicely when JavaScript, images, or CSS have been disabled.
  • NothingWavering.org is Audio and Video Podcast enabled, so that Latter-day Saint podcasts can be played directly in the site from an embedded player. This includes both Audio and Video podcasts of General Conference, which can be enjoyed right on the portal as they become available. For an example, take a look at the Nothing Wavering aggregation of President Monson's address from April 2009 conference:
