Like other large social media networks, Twitter comes with possible risks. Here are a few practices that can help keep teens safe on Twitter.
- Talk to your teens about what they post and the amount of personal information they share online.
- While Tweets can be limited so only approved followers can see them, most people share their Tweets with everyone. Talk with your teens about setting the privacy so that Tweets are only visible to approved followers.
- Remind teens to protect their passwords. Passwords should never be shared, not even with friends.
- If the home computer is shared, remind your teens to always log out when they finish their Twitter session. (It’s important to log out of any websites accessed on a shared computer. Otherwise, other people may be able to access accounts.)
