The Joseph Smith Monument was unveiled on 23 December 1905, at Joseph Smith’s birthplace in Sharon, Vermont. Dignitaries from Salt Lake City were joined there by local residents and by Latter-day Saints traveling from New York City and other eastern points. The services were open to anyone who could get there, but the First Presidency extended personal invitations to some.
