The latest volume of The Joseph Smith Papers project is Revelations and Translations, Volume 4: Book of Abraham and Related Manuscripts. It explains the development of the Book of Abraham, from the time Joseph Smith and others purchased Egyptian papyri in 1835 through the publication of the Book of Abraham text and accompanying illustrations in the Times and Seasons in 1842.
The video “Book of Abraham Artifact Tour” provides a behind-the-scenes look at the Joseph Smith papyri, the Book of Abraham manuscripts, and the original Times and Seasons newspaper that first published the scriptural text. Historian Robin Scott Jensen gives a hands-on tour of these rarely seen artifacts.
The volume Revelations and Translations, Volume 4: Book of Abraham and Related offers an unprecedented look at the manuscripts and earliest publications of the Book of Abraham. It also explains Joseph Smith’s study of the Egyptian papyri before he dictated the Book of Abraham.
