Once again, as science increases its understanding of what's best for humans (nutritionally speaking), and what's best for our planet (environmentally speaking), it gets closer to teachings found in the Word of Wisdom. This comes as no surprise given that the Word of Wisdom was given by direct revelation from an all knowing and wise Creator. 

Recently I've seen reports on news websites suggesting that humans should eat less red meat. It seems science has caught the attention of people who create nutritional guidelines (for example, see here). The Canadian nutritional guidelines now recommend eating less meat as well.

All of this comes as no surprise given that God told us long ago that "flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly." It definitely seems that humankind has come around to the Word of Wisdom way of thinking on meat consumption.

What changes do I personally have to make? Well, I already eat meat sparingly. It is the main course in only about one of my meals each week, if at all. Now that science has adopted the Word of Wisdom's approach on meat consumption, something I can work on is not grinning every time we sing that line from the hymn Our Lovely Deseret which goes "And they eat but a very little meat."
