Scriptures, Mapped is a site that links specific events in the scriptures to their actual locations on Google Maps. You can explore chapters in the New Testament, Old Testament, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price and see their actual locations on the map.
The project was created by BYU colleagues Stephen W. Liddle & Taylor Halverson.
The scriptures happened in real locations with real people. Our faith is not some ethereal experience disembodied from the grounded reality of location and time. Situating the scriptures into their geographical context gives nuance and perspective to the stories of faith and hope that inspire us. — Taylor Halverson
The interface displays the scripture in a pane on the left side of the page and the Google map on the right side with red markers identifying each of the locations mentioned in that chapter. Within the text, geographical references are marked in blue font and are linked to the map. Simply click on the geographical reference in the text and the map will zoom into that location.
With this tool, you can read the scriptures geographically, chapter by chapter.
