The Atlantic magazine has published a substantial article about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints titled “The Most American Religion.” The subtitle of the article reads “Perpetual outsiders, Mormons spent 200 years assimilating to a certain national ideal—only to find their country in an identity crisis. What will the third century of the faith look like?”
Hal Boyd of the Deseret News called this article “perhaps the most consequential magazine-length feature on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in more than a decade.”
The article was written by a member of the Church and included interviews with President Russell M. Nelson and President M. Russell Ballard. The Atlantic’s editor, Jeffrey Goldberg, flew out to Salt Lake City to personally pitch President Nelson on participating in the article. He conveyed to the prophet that the article wouldn’t shy away from tensions or facts, but that The Atlantic would be fair in its approach.
We invite you to read the article “The Most American Religion.”
