This is often called the Apocalypse of Isaiah. According to the literary genre, that may not technically be correct. But the actual meaning of the word ‘apocalypse’ – a revelation or unveiling, is actually what this is about.
The previous two sections showed us how Babylon will be overcome, from a Temporal perspective (13-20) and according to a Spiritual perspective (21-23). These prophecies of the different countries are all true, but that isn’t really what this is all about. It is about how Babylon, or in other words, the World will fall.
This section is the Synthesis of those two sections. Now that Babylon is destroyed, we have either personal destruction, or entrance into the presence of God. This chiasmus (it is all one great chiasmus) concerns the Second Coming the the Lord, and contains some unappreciated prophecies.
The first half of this chiasmus concerns a destroyed city. Because the previous two sections were about the fall of Babylon, we may consider this city as Babylon or, as the World after it has fallen.
The second half of the chiasmus concerns Jerusalem, as a city established by God, and as the people of God.
