James H. Hart of Idaho was our emigration agent in New York in the 1880s, negotiating rail fares and routes, and meeting immigrants from the ships and transferring them to the trains. Because there was no organized mission at that date, he traveled throughout New York and New England in response to missionary calls, teaching and baptizing as he had opportunity. From one letter:
