An update to Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ—Service Missionaries is now available in Gospel Library. The update addresses commonly asked questions from missionaries and mission leaders and clarifies existing standards.
Summary of Changes
- Each section aligns more closely with the second edition of Preach My Gospel: A Guide to Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
- The title of the handbook has been changed to Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ—Service Missionaries.
- To describe roles more accurately, the title of “service mission leader” has been changed to “service missionary adviser” (see section 2.1.2), and the title of “area service mission specialist” has been changed to “area service missionary coordinator.”
- The purpose statement for service missionaries has been updated.
- Changes reflect the integration of service missionaries under mission president leadership in local missions.
- Section 3.2.2 includes updates to serving in the temple.
- Sections 3.5.4 and 3.5.6 include updates to the guidelines on wearing the missionary name badge.
- The dress and appearance guidelines in section 4.10 have been updated to reflect the dress and appearance website.
Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ—Service Missionaries is available on Gospel Library in the following languages: Cambodian, Cebuano, Chinese, Chinese (Simplified), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Samoan, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, and Thai.
Printed versions will be available at Store.ChurchofJesusChrist.org in the coming weeks. Mission leaders, service missionary advisers, and service missionaries should begin using this new edition immediately and should refer to the new digital version for the latest approved policies.
