General Conference begins tomorrow. Are you planning to attend, or do you consider conference weekend as a break from regular Sunday meetings?

Before each conference, the First Presidency issues a letter to “invite all members of the Church to participate” in general conference. “Messages of inspiration and guidance will be delivered by the First Presidency, members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and other General Authorities and general officers of the Church…. We encourage all members to listen to and follow the counsel given during the general conference.”

There are blessings of attending the event live, either at the Conference Center or in your meetinghouse. If possible, I encourage you to arrange your schedules so you can attend live.  The Savior has promised that “where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). There is power in the Spirit you can feel by attending the live event.

  • Attend the live event in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City. See ticket information.
  • Attend conference as it is broadcast live via satellite or Internet in your own meetinghouse.

If you can’t attend live, then I encourage you to watch or listen to it live through television, radio, the Internet, or other media. Recording the sessions for viewing at some later time somehow lessens the impact of the messages on us. What could be more important tomorrow and Sunday than listening to Prophets and Apostles of God giving us advice on how to live in an increasingly evil and confusing world?

If you will be watching conference on LDS.org, you’ll notice that the Church has upgraded the video player. Learn about the new features of that video player.
