Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness.

This is one of those punishments that are probably just natural consequences of sin. The gospel promises us a rich sociality that even us introverts can embrace. Meanwhile those who walk the path of sin may have cronies and dupes, but their circle of real friends will be pared down by themselves.
They can’t be trusted or admired.
