The First Presidency has announced the publication of the Latter-day Saint edition of the Holy Bible in Portuguese, available online now at asescrituras.lds.org and on the Gospel Library mobile app.

This edition is based on the Almeida translation and is titled Biblia Sagrada: Almeida 2015. It contains new chapter headings, footnotes, cross-references to all of the standard works, and other study helps that will enhance your understanding of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

Also released are updated editions of the Book of Mormon and the triple combination of the scriptures in Portuguese.

This new Bible is a great blessing for the nearly 1.4 million Portuguese-speaking members of the Church.

Availability

Digital editions are available now at asescrituras.lds.org and on the Gospel Library mobile app. Printed copies will be available beginning in March 2016 through local Church distribution centers. Ordering information will be made available in January 2016.

Approximately 100,000 copies of the new edition of the Bible are being printed at the Church’s printing centers in Salt Lake City and Brazil for worldwide distribution. Hardcover and softcover editions of the new Bible will be available first, followed by genuine and simulated leather covers. A quadruple combination will also be introduced in 2016, as well as a Portuguese Braille edition.

An audio recording of these updated Portuguese scriptures will be available by the end of 2016.

The Translation Work

Under the direction of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, a team of General Authorities, Area Seventies, professional linguists, and Church members labored five years to review and prepare the LDS edition of the Holy Bible in Portuguese.
