An old horse was looking over the fence into a brushy field where some goat kids were frolicking.  A crow settled onto the fence next to him.

After a time, the horse observed, “They are so full of life, aren’t they?  It makes me feel young again.”

“It’s all in the genes,” the crow said.  “What to your untutored eyes is friskiness is actually just an expression of the play instinct which allows the young to develop survival and reproductive skills in an imitative and explorative form.  It’s nothing but genes.”

The old horse was thoughtful.  “Did you say that because of your genes?” he asked.

And in a huff the crow flew away.

Moral: Criticisms apply to the criticizer.
