Self-recommending.He makes a catalog of scriptural women which is also a catalog of virtues.
Mary: submission, motherhood, influence
Lucy Mack Smith: motherhood, influence
Ruth and Naomi: loyalty
The widow of the mite: sacrifice
Mary and Elizabeth: anticipation (an interesting virtue that. Something along the lines of faith and hope)
When the surf of the centuries has made the great pyramids so much sand, the everlasting family will still be standing, because it is a celestial institution, formed outside telestial time. The women of God know this.
The one painful part of the talk for me is at the very beginning. He says
We know so little, brothers and sisters, about the reasons for the division of duties between womanhood and manhood as well as between motherhood and priesthood.
True. We don’t. I think its mostly because we don’t want to know, because we are afraid of what we might find out. When a people go to Jehovah in prayer, He can’t always be relied on to give an answer that takes due account of the tender feelings of the Gods of the Marketplace.
Anyhow, an excellent talk, and it really must be read in the original. I have not done it justice.
