The World Health Organization has issued its first-ever guidelines on screen time for children:

  • Kids under 5 should not spend more than 1 hour watching screens every day—and less is better.
  • Infants under 1 should not view screens at all.

These guidelines are similar to those from the American Academy of Pediatrics. They recommend that children younger than 18 months should avoid screens other than video chats and that parents of young children under two should choose high-quality programming with educational value that can be watched with a parent to help kids understand what they’re seeing.
