A very large countrywoman collapsed at the market with a broken toe.  It hurt her very much.

Her eyes fastened on a healthy young man who stood nearby and began to loudly accuse him of causing her pain.  Because, she said, whenever he was near, she felt the agony.  He tried to explain things to her and cajole her, to no avail.

Finally, as more and more of the crowd gathered round and appeared to accept her accusations, he tried to placate her.  “I will leave the market and leave you alone,” he said, “if you will just leave me alone too.”

She refused.  Wherever he went he would cause her pain, she said, and she knew this because she felt the pain constantly.

Moral: there is no reasoning or negotiating with angry, damaged, crazy people or with the people who listen to them.
