My brain woke me up at 3 AM this morning wanting to tell me its thoughts on the evils of porn. The poor thing must be lonely, we’ll have to spend more quality time together.
Anyway, I listened patiently. Here they are.
- You are participating in the degradation and shame of the participants. Even in the very unlikely situation where they are married and not part of the general gutter that is the porn industry, you are helping them make something private and sacred public and parodic. It’s a blasphemy of something that is holy. It would be liking watching illicit videos of people getting their endowments done, and doing it for entertainment.
- Porn is for masturbation. The right true end of sexual stimulation is mutual joy during vaginal sex between a married man and woman. Masturbation is inherently homosexual in that it involves a man having sex with a man (himself) or a woman having sex with a woman (herself). It is also incredibly self-centered.
- There are the effects of porn. Addiction, diminished ability to have real sex, distortion of one’s expectations, overwriting of one’s brain . . .
- Using porn is submitting to the sexual revolution. Porn on the screen is kissing the gay flag and tranny men in girls bathrooms. Even if, per impossibile, there were nothing inherently wrong with porn, it would be a grave evil for that reason alone.
There are, however, no limits on what repentance in Christ can overcome for you, and no caps on how many times you can keep trying to repent until it sticks.
